In The Garden With The Carrots!

Have you ever had really good, juicy carrots? Not the kind that’s all white and dehydrated like your skin in the winter.
I mean a plump, bursting balloon of sweetness, with a few wisps of fuzzy roots and wrinkles, maybe, but a thin skin that betrays its more-orange-than-an-orange flesh?
Thankfully, I have. And it’ll never be forgotten. Granted, I can eat carrots any way, shape or form: raw, cooked, juiced, shredded or mashed — and yes, wispy and dry as my skin right now, too. But it’s a whole other level of enjoyment when the ingredient is at its prime.
It’s easy to see why carrots are such champions. They have more carotene than any fruit or vegetable. (Carotene is what the body converts to vitamin A).
And carrots are an excellent source of vitamins B, C, D, E and K, as well as calcium pectate. Calcium pectate is an extraordinary pectin fiber that has cholesterol-lowering properties.
Carrot nutritional benefits contribute to speed healing when used in raw juices. The juice contains powerful antioxidants that are extremely useful in treating illness, like cancer, anemia, high blood pressure and depression.
Carrot juice promotes the desire to eat and helps in the digestion of food.. A carrot a day keeps diarrhea away.
So the carrots and I have some good times in my garden. I simply choose short-rooted varieties, and I get a bumper crop of great looking carrots every time. Read More→
Beets: One Of The Best Foods You Aren’t Growing

No garden seems complete without beets. It’s easy to love fresh beets, and not just for their nutritional advantages. Beets have an earthy, hard-to-define flavor like no other vegetable’s.
These grungy-looking roots are naturally sweeter than any other vegetable, which means they pack tons of flavor underneath their rugged exterior.
Beets generously give us two vegetables, as both the roots and tops are edible.
Beet greens, like other greens, are good sources of vitamin K, calcium and magnesium, which help build and maintain strong bones. Their vitamin A helps maintain eye health.
The lovely red roots provide folate, which may help reduce risk of heart disease and neural tube defects in developing fetuses. They too have magnesium, along with fiber and potassium.
Besides, beet roots have a good supply of vitamins B and C.
Beets can lower blood pressure, scientists say–news that elevates these lowly root vegetables to new heights.
British researchers recently wrote that nitrates, natural chemicals in the beets, may provide the blood-pressure-reducing wallop

Health Warning:Neurotoxin In Veggie Burgers
By · Comments
Do you love veggie burgers? Many vegetarians swear by veggie burgers, most of which are made by soy, because they believe the fake meat is healthier than animal meat.
Think you’re being healthy by choosing a veggie burger instead of red meat? Think again.
In an effort to make their products as low-fat as possible, many veggie burger manufacturers are turning to a potentially harmful chemical, according to an investigation by the non-profit Cornucopia Institute. It revealed in a recent report that most non-organic veggie burger brands contain a chemical called hexane, which is an EPA-registered air pollutant and neurotoxin.
This lovely chemical is traditionally reserved for shoe glue, leather products and roofing. And now food manufacturers have decided that it would be a cheap and easy thing to use in our veggie burgers as well. Oh, and did I mention that hexane is a bi-product of gasoline?
So why do they use it? Well, they figure that people who buy veggie burgers are generally more health conscious. And, they figure that people who are health conscious won’t want a lot of fat in their food.
So, they soak soybeans in hexane so they can separate the fat from the protein.
According to the Cornucopia Institute’s report, “if a non-organic product contains a soy protein isolate, soy protein concentrate, or texturized vegetable protein, you can be pretty sure it was made using soy beans that were made with hexane.”
That is the horror of non-organic nutrition labels, they may tell you what the ingredient is, but they don’t tell you the chemical process they went through to create it. And, Read More→
Alert: Toxic Plants In Your Garden
By · CommentsWe often live side -by- side with toxic plants and are ignorant that many common plants we use for food, decorate our homes or add value to the landscape are poisonous.
You may be surprised to find out the incredibly lethal plants often hanging around the neighborhood park – or gracing your tabletop in the form of a centerpiece.
We have poisonous plants in our own private gardens, on sale at garden centers, on show in gardens open to the public; including many public parks that are totally unsupervised..
Surprisingly, there is more than one plant that could be in your home that is a potential killer.
*
One, is the Daffodil. The bulbs of a daffodil can be deadly. If consumed they can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
Include with the bulbs of a Daffodil, the bulbs of a Hyacinth and the bulbs of a Narcissus. Both cause the same symptoms as a Daffodil and both can also cause death.
Daffodils are deer- and vermin-resistant, and no wonder — they have a poisonous numbing effect.
* Oleander : Oleander is a common garden plant, but ingesting any part of it can be deadly. Even the smoke from a burning oleander can kill you.
It is the most deadly plant in the world. It is also tremendously popular as a decorative shrub. Just one leaf can kill an adult, and fatal poisonings have resulted from minimal exposure to the twigs, blooms and berries.
Once ingested, oleander goes to work simultaneously on the nervous system, the cardiovascular system, and the digestive tract.
* Apples: The apples on the tree are, as we know, not only good to eat but also good for us. But not the seeds. They, as well as the seeds of apricots and the pits of peaches contain cyanogenic glycosides. If you eat enough of the seeds, you could very well die.
If you cut up apples for your children or prefer to eat whole apples down to the core, make sure you remove those seeds.
* The rosary pea may sound sweet and downright pious, but it’s actually one of the most toxic plants on earth. Its seeds contain a particular lectin known as abrin.
If chewed and swallowed, death will follow shortly. The seeds are easily identified with their distinctive bright red jacket and single black dot (almost like a reverse Black Widow spider And, Read More→
